When we were released from the hospital from my delivery they told us that Asher had 'medium-high level of jaundice' and that we needed to go see our pediatrician on Monday for a followup. We went to our 1st appointment on Monday morning and they confirmed that the levels for jaundice were high and to keep him in the window so he can get some sun. Just our luck...it was freezing that day and snowed so no sun for Asher! They set an appointment for the very next day to see if his biliruben numbers lowered. Unfortunately they raised even higher...so they admitted Asher to the NICU! I was so scared for him. Are you serious?! My baby is only 5 days old and you are already taking him away from me?!?! We went to the hospital that evening and they started him on IV's, antibiotics and put him right under the UV lights to improve his numbers. They told us that we couldn't stay with him because he needed to be under the nurses care in the NICU and because he was on IV's he couldn't stay in a room with me for liability purposes!?!? So...I basically lived at the hospital for the next three days. I was so sad every time I saw him. The NICU nurses were super sweet and taught Mike & I a lot about what was going on. Of course we were clueless when we went in. His numbers gradually got better and better. We checked him in at 21.7 and they released him on Thrusday at 7.4! So thank God he improved tons!!!
When my son was born, he had the same problem! Fortunately they caught it before we left the hospital, but he had to stay under the lights for an entire day and we couldnt hold him. That was bad enough - I can't imagine leaving him there :( So glad he's ok now!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I was getting a little nervous because you hadn't posted in awhile...I'm so glad hes doing better.
ReplyDeleteWow I would have been so upset also. But thank the lord they took it seriously and got him all fixed up quickly. These pictures of him look so sad.
ReplyDeleteBut that last picture is truly the most precious thing ever. What a little angel sent from above.
Poor thing! We went through the same thing with Alex! They discharged me from the hospital, but kept Alex an extra 3 days, then we had to see her pedi every other day for a week so they could keep checking her levels.
ReplyDeleteI am soo glad baby Asher is better now!
He is beautiful! So glad he is better...AMY
